01. Skipping the tech pack

A verbal brief is not a spec. Without a tech pack, factories interpret your design. Every interpretation is a potential rework cost, and those costs compound across a production run.

A tech pack removes the guesswork. Measurements, materials, construction details, and callouts are all on the page, not left to memory or assumption. Skip it, and you're not saving time. You're just moving the cost downstream, where it's harder and more expensive to fix.

02. Skipping the prototype

Production begins with an approved prototype. For apparel, that's a fit sample. For bags and accessories, it's a functional prototype. Skipping this step means approving a product you've never held, worn, or tested.

Photos and renders can only tell you so much. A prototype tells you how a garment actually moves, how a bag actually holds weight, how a strap actually sits. Approving a product before that step means finding out what doesn't work after you've already committed to a production run.

03. Choosing a manufacturer too early

Locking in a manufacturer before your design is finalized means building around their constraints instead of your product's needs. Minimums, lead times, and capabilities should inform your decision, not drive it.

The right manufacturer is chosen to fit the product, not the other way around. Committing early forces compromises into the design before you even know what the design requires. That's how a strong concept quietly becomes a smaller, safer version of itself.
